Annotation

Based on archival materials, journalistic and historical research, the article examines the methods and forms of policy pursued by government bodies and public associations in the field of cultural and national development of the USSR regions. The relevance of the study is due to the important role of modern strategy of the national policy in the field of state ethnopolitics. The historical experience of the revival and preserving the national identity of the peoples of Russia is more relevant and timely today than ever. The article addresses the state of multinational culture in the late Soviet period on the example of the national policy of the Chuvash ASSR. The article examines the issues of national culture development after the adopting the Constitution of the USSR in 1977 and the RSFSR in 1978. National culture is represented in various forms: in language policy, amateur art, art, music, poetry, museum activities and cultural monuments. The forms and methods of intercultural relations in a multinational country and region are presented. During the period of perestroika, new forms appear in the dialogue of cultures between neighboring regions and the center. Government institutions and public organizations and movements contributed to the revival and preservation of the national culture in the last years of the Soviet State.
