Key words: the Chuvash people, national hero, political worker, the Great Patriotic War, interethnic relations, military university students, officer cadres, patriotic and military education, traditions, Strategic Missile forces.
The article highly appreciates the importance of the activities of the Chuvash national hero, soldier-winner of the Great Patriotic War, one of the creators of the nuclear shield of Homeland’s security Viktor Mikhailovich Mikhailov. Its relevance is also due to the fact that beginning with September 1, 2022, in all types (branches) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the institute of “deputy commanders for military and political work” (yesterday’s deputy commanders for political affairs, political workers) was revived, the training system (after a twenty-year break) of officer cadres for military and political work bodies was recreated, “shoulder marks” for the teaching staff of the departments of “Military-political work in the military (forces)” are returned. The invaluable experience of the first head of Riga Politico-Military Red Banner Training School, Major General V.M. Mikhailov, became more in demand than ever.
The purpose of the work is to pay tribute to the memory and gratitude not only to the victorious soldier of the last war, but also to one of the first leaders of the Strategic Missile Forces.
The methodological basis of the work is made by the principles of objectivity, historicism, concreteness and logic, based on practical activities in the military and educational institutions of the higher professional education system of modern Russia. As a result of a scientific search, the work presents previously unknown pages in the biography of Chuvashia’s national hero, the peculiarities of the national mentality and culture of the Chuvash in the family of fraternal ethnic groups of modern Russia are noted.
The results of the study are of great practical importance for the system of patriotic education of young people, future defenders of the Homeland, the development of military pedagogical culture of the teaching staff in educational and scientific departments of the higher school of the Russian Federation. The authors also express their personal attitude towards this Great Man, who in many ways predetermined their personal officer and military-pedagogical fate, surrounding them with paternal care and attention for more than forty years.
