Abstract

The article describes the ethnic composition of citizens evacuated to the Chuvash ASSR during the Great Patriotic war on the basis of archival documents from the funds of the State Historical Archive of the Chuvash Republic. The reasons for the predominance of certain nationalities – the Jews, the Ukrainians, the Chuvash, the Belarusians, etc. in the numerical composition of the evacuated population are revealed. Data on the geography of departure places of citizens evacuated to the territory of the Republic are given. It is concluded that the data on ethnic composition of the evacuated population that arrived in the territory of the Chuvash ASSR and the specific weight of individual nationalities in it are in consonant with the data on other subjects of the RSFSR that received citizens from the Western borders of the country. Features of the arrived population accommodation by towns and regions of the Republic are shown: the Ukrainians and the Jews mainly lived in the towns of the Chuvash ASSR, the Tatars and the Chuvash were settled mainly in the southern regions of the Republic, the Polanders and the Germans lived in small groups in almost all regions. It is noted that for all peoples, one or more cities and regions can be identified where the main part of the evacuated population of this nationality was concentrated.
