Abstract

The article offers the results of studying the history of formation and development of higher education and science in the Chuvash ASSR. It is indicated that before the revolution of 1917 there were no higher educational institutions in Chuvashia and only some representatives of the Chuvash ethnic group could get higher education. Therefore, the country’s leadership set an important task – formation of scientific and pedagogical personnel to train highly qualified specialists. The article shows the successes and failures in scientific personnel training as well. In the early 1930s, the Chuvash Pedagogical Institute and the Chuvash Agricultural Institute were opened, which rightfully became a forge for training highly qualified specialists for the national economy. The names of outstanding scientists and organizers of science who made a great contribution to the development of the Republic and the country as a whole are named.
