Abstract
On the basis of archival documents from the funds of the State Historical Archive of the Chuvash Republic the article characterizes the age and gender composition of citizens evacuated to Chuvashia in 1941 – the first half of 1942. Inaccuracies in previously published documents on the registration of citizens evacuated to the territory of Chuvashia are noted. Peculiarities of accommodation of the arrived population in towns and regions of the republic are identified. It is concluded that there were sharp territorial differences in the degree of employment assistance, since, according to the authors’ calculations, in the southern districts of Chuvashia, which are the furthest from the capital of autonomy, more than half of the able-bodied evacuated population remained unemployed, which was twice the average employment rate of the evacuees in the Republic. The authors gives an explanation to this phenomenon. With the support of statistical material, three main fields for applying the labor of the evacuated population located in Chuvashia are distinguished: in collective farms, on industrial enterprises, at institutions and organizations.
