DEVELOPMENT OF RADIO BROADCASTING IN PENZA REGION IN 1945–1965

Abstract

The article deals with the development of regional radio broadcasting in Penza region in 1945–1965. Radio of the studied period, reflecting the peculiarities of the socio-political system with overzealous censorship, ideological tendencies in the state and the society, united efforts and aspirations of people in solving their common task: restoration of the national economy. Penza Radio was touched upon by “complete and utter installation of wired radio units”, which was held in the form of socialist competitions all over the country in 1960. Despite the rapid pace of radio broadcasting development in Penza region, the plan for wired radio units installation was not implemented and on January 1, 1961 out of 2349 settlements in the region 2298 were equipped with radio units. The achievement of the study period was foundation of the Radio House in Penza in 1963, which still functions nowadays. By 1965, the city wire broadcasting centre served 53,200 receiving stations, the number of radio stations in the region was 2, the number of wire broadcasting centres – 162, receiving stations – 280,800, which was undoubtedly an achievement in the development of radio broadcasting of the region. In 1945–1965, radio was a sought-after media. Radio broadcasting of the studied period in Penza region played a huge cultural, educational role and was the primary campaigning means for the restoration of the national economy in the region.
