Abstract
The bourgeois were the second largest class of the Russian Empire, making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of both the state as a whole and its regions. The article analyzes the structure of professional and entrepreneurial activity of the bourgeois of the town of Sarapul as the largest trade and industrial center of pre-revolutionary Udmurtia, making it possible to outline more precisely the potential of the bourgeois in the sphere of economic processes. The main directions in the activities carried out by representatives of the class are marked out; the main names of professions of bourgeois-artisans are considered. The article offers insight into the importance of such factors as gender, literacy, as well as administrative registration in selecting professional and entrepreneurial activities. As a result, the author reveals predominance of the bourgeois in the sphere of material production and providing services, and he makes the conclusion about the importance of the bourgeois in the economy of the town of Sarapul.
