Abstract
The article reveals peculiarities of covering the problems of domestic violence and harassment in the Russian realities of the pre-revolutionary period. The relevance of the research is due to immaturity of this topic in Russian historiography, as well as the difficulties of legal regulation of gender and family relations at the present stage, attempts to reform labor and family legislation in the Russian Federation. The article examines the views of American scientists on the problem over the past two decades. The research is related to the analysis performed by foreign historians of family relations evolution in Russia during the 18th – early 20th century which are interrelated to the processes of socio-economic development of the society. The author identifies the main approaches of foreign scientists to the problems of domestic violence and harassment, expressed in the form of spousal violence, murder, rape, as well as gender-based harassment in the workplace. Historiographical data on problematic approaches in foreign historiography to the analysis of the phenomenon of “sexual harassment” in the context of historical experience are introduced into scientific circulation.
