Abstract
One of the most famous natives of Cheboksary is V.I. Chapaev. His name is known not only in our country, but also abroad. One of the ways to perpetuate the memory of the legendary commander in his homeland was opening a museum.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the history of the activities carried out by the Museum of V.I. Chapaev in Cheboksary in the period from 1980 to 1989, to identify the main areas of work and show the key events.
Materials and methods. The article is based on the principle of historicism, which implies considering the events in their historical interrelation, the principles of consistency and objectivity, which is conditioned by the analysis of a complex made by various sources about the museum. The main methods were the method of archival documents analysis and historical and genetic method. The source base of the research is archival documents of the State Historical Archive of the Chuvash Republic: documents on the activities of the museum and annual reports of the institution.
Study results. Since its opening, the Museum of V.I. Chapaev has attracted the attention of both local residents, responding to a long-standing request from the society, and guests of the republic from other parts of the country and from abroad. The interest in the museum has not faded over the years, but, on the contrary, has only grown. In the 1980s, several major events took place, related to significant dates and the appearance of new expositions.
Conclusions. The author paid special attention to such events as celebration of significant dates and opening of the historical and household exposition in the House-Museum of V.I. Chapaev. A set of events were timed to coincide with these dates, in preparation for which extensive work was carried out. This work is reflected in organization of thematic exhibitions, meetings with honorary guests, interactive classes for schoolchildren, etc. From the first years of operation, the Museum of V.I. Chapaev became one of the most visited cultural sites in Cheboksary, and its activities in subsequent years only strengthened this status. It is this museum that is the central “place of memory”, which contributes to perpetuating the memory of the legendary commander of the Civil War.
