Policy and Ethics

The editorial staff of the Historical Search journal recommends authors to follow the rules stated lower.

1. The author’s original paper should be submitted in both hard- and soft copy forms. The hard-copy should be paginated, and its title page should bear the author’s signature and the date.

2. The paper that enters the editorial office should be supplied with:

– the author’s application addressed to the editor in chief;

– two outside reviews;

– the scientific adviser’s application;

– the license agreement (in two copies);

– the act of expert examination (for technical specialties).

3. The author should point the rubric under which the paper should be published.

4. Paper typography:

– class indices of the universal decimal classification (UDC, Russian: УДК) and Library-Bibliographical Classifier (LBC, Russian: ББК);

– the authors’ initials and surnames;

– the title of the paper (in Russian and English);

– key words (in Russian and English);

– the summary of the paper (in Russian and English);

– the text of the paper;

– bibliography cited in the paper;

– the author’s personal data.

The authors’ original papers are formatted on a computer in the Microsoft Word document format (doc or docx files). Pages should be formatted as А4 with margins of 4 cm on the right and left, 4.5 cm – on the top, 5.7 см – on the bottom, the header should be located 3 cm from the edge of the page, the indented line starts at 0.75 cm. The text of the paper should be typed in Times New Roman, 11 pt., single-space.

The text of the paper is submitted in two hard copies with the supplement of a soft copy.

5. Graphics

5.1. Drawings (graphs, diagrams, schemes, drafts and other graphics done via MS Office) should be contrasty and sharp. The amount of graphics should be minimal (except for papers where it is justified by the research character). Each drawing should be included in the text and have an enumerated caption under it. All captions under drawings are typed in font size 9 pt. It is necessary to include references to drawings in the text.

5.2. Photographs, screenshots and other undrawn graphical material should be sent to the editorial office separately, filed as *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif. The image resolution should be not less than 300 dpi.

6. Formulae and lettering in the text. Formulae should be typed via Microsoft Equation editor. Greek letters should be typed in Symbol font, all the others – in Times New Roman, main font size is 11 pt., large font – 7 pt., small font – 5 pt.

Latin letters are typed in italics, Greek and Cyrillic letters – in Roman type; symbols for matrices, vectors, and mathematical operators – in Roman semi-bold type (boldface font).

Formulae should be centered on page. The number of the formula should be located at the right edge. Only those formulae are enumerated that are referred to.

It is recommended to use the international system of units of measurement (SI) when indicating physical quantities.

7. Tables. The text in the tables is typed in font size 9 pt., the headline is singled out by boldface type. The paper should contain references to the tables.

8. Bibliography. The list of the sources is made in the alphabetical order. References to the sources are given in the text in square brackets, for e.g. [1], [1. P. 5].

9. The author’s personal data are typed boldface, font size 10 pt. in Russian and English in Nominative case in the following order:

Surname (Last Name), First Name, Patronymic. Scientific degree, Post, Place of employment. Country. City. Contact details (e-mail).

10. The papers, not formatted according to these rules will be rejected without consideration. The return of the paper to the author for revision does not mean the paper is approved for publishing. After the revised paper re-enters the editorial office, it is reconsidered by the editorial board. The author should return the revised text along with the original copy of the paper, as well as with the answers to all the questions raised by the reviewer. The date of the paper entering the editorial office is considered to be the date of receiving the final copy of the paper.

11. Post-graduate students are not charged with the publication fee.

12. One issue of the journal may not usually contain more than two papers of the same author, including joint authorship.
