Abstract

The article is devoted to the process of formation of one of the first local history museums of Udmurtia – Glazov Museum of Local Lore, opened in the post-revolutionary years, when transformations in cultural life began in the country and local museums began to be created everywhere, including in national regions. The purpose of the article is to consider the problems in organizing and forming the museum and to reveal the main directions of its activities during this period. The principle of historicism and descriptive-narrative (ideographic) method used by the author made it possible to systematize the material and show the subject of the study in dynamics and in connection with other phenomena and events. Based on published materials and archival documents, the article reflects: acquisition of the museum fund, preparation of expositions and exhibitions, dissemination and promotion of scientific knowledge, as well as the reasons that significantly influenced the fulfillment of the tasks assigned, including those related to the lack of qualified personnel and special premises. The research materials made it possible to supplement the existing source base and can be used in scientific and educational practice, popularization and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the region. The prospects for further development of the theme are connected with continuing the study of certain areas of activity performed by Glazov and other museums of the republic, as well as identification of new materials revealing the biographies of managers and the daily life of employees.
